To the citizens who took the test drive together, President Yoon said, “I am sorry to everyone that this service has been delayed for more than 7 years,” and added, “Please think of the GTX as your car and make suggestions for improvements at any time.”

When a 92-year-old man who took a test ride with his granddaughter said, “After riding the GTX today, I feel that my country has developed so much,” President Yoon said, “I am grateful that you are traveling in good health by using the train.” “I hope you stay healthy and spend more time with your granddaughter.”

The GTX-A train will operate on the 34.9km section between Suseo and Dongtan, starting with the first train departing from Dongtan at 5:30 a.m. on the 30th. The first train from Suseo departs at 5:45 am. It runs every 17 minutes on average during rush hour from 6:30 a.m. to 9 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Outside of rush hour, the interval between trips is longer, averaging 20 minutes.

The basic fare for the Suseo-Dongtan section is 3,200 won, and if the travel distance exceeds 10 km, a distance fee of 250 won is added for every 5 km. Accordingly, the fare from Suseo to Dongtan is 4,450 won, Suseo to Seongnam 3,450 won, and Seongnam to Dongtan 3,950 won. President Yoon said, “We will definitely lower the GTX fare burden that citizens are worried regarding,” and added, “We will use the public transportation discount program ‘K-Pass’ and discounts for seniors, children, the disabled, and people of merit to use it in the 2,000 to 3,000 won range.” “We will ease the burden of transportation costs on the public through a transfer discount system in the metropolitan area and a 10% discount on weekends,” he explained.

The GTX-A train has a maximum operating speed of 180 km/h. The average operating speed, reflecting stopping time, is 101 km/h, which is three times faster than a regular subway. You can travel between Suseo and Dongtan in regarding 20 minutes. This saves more than half the time compared to regarding 45 minutes by car or 75 minutes by bus.

President Yoon also emphasized the effect of GTX on improving urban competition. He said, “The fast speed of GTX shortens the distance between cities and expands exchanges between people and cities,” and added, “The high-speed public transportation network will also resolve the economic and social gap between Seoul and the metropolitan area.” He also added, “Dongtan will now further develop into a city where many talents and companies will flock based on a high-speed metropolitan transportation network.”

Starting with Suseo-Dongtan on the 30th, the GTX-A route will open between Paju Unjeong Station and Seoul Station by the end of the year. The section between Seoul Station and Suseo Station (excluding Samsung Station) will open in 2026. The GTX-C (Yangju-Suwon) route, which began construction last January, is scheduled to open by 2028, and the B route (Incheon-Namyangju), which began construction last March, is scheduled to open by 2030.

The government plans to complete the opening plan by proceeding with the construction of the A, B, and C lines currently under construction without disruption. The 2nd GTX plan announced in January is also scheduled to be materialized within President Yoon’s term. The GTX-A route will be extended to Pyeongtaek, the B route will be extended to Chuncheon, the C route will be extended to Dongducheon, Osan, Cheonan, and Asan, and the D, E, and F routes will be carried out as a sectional project. The goal for the first stage section is to complete the preliminary examination process within the term, with the goal of opening in 2035. In addition to the pre-taping process, a private proposal process is also carried out.

President Yoon emphasized, “Our government is a government that always keeps its promises and takes action,” and added, “I am personally taking care to ensure that the promised projects are carried out without a hitch and (GTX) is properly opened on time.” He added, “GTX is the artery of the hyper-connected metropolitan area that connects cities in a large, wide, and fast manner. GTX’s blood vessels will make the metropolitan area, the heart of Korea, beat dynamically.”
