For six months, Dr. Éric Paradis, who operates at the Pierre-Boucher Hospital in Longueuil, is the only one in Quebec to use a device that uses radio frequencies to burn uterine fibroids, a benign tumor that affects women .
“It is mainly a benign tumor in women and almost 70% to 80% of women will have uterine fibroids during their life. It is especially the menstrual bleeding that will be abundant, with anemia,” explains Dr. Paradis, who specifies that uterine fibroids can also cause infertility.

The device can reach a temperature of 95 degrees Celsius, thereby burning uterine fibroids.
“It’s a technology that has been available for several years in the United States, then has been available in Canada for a year or two. It’s a technology that allows patients to keep their uterus, whereas before they had no choice,” explains Dr. Paradis.

Use of the device reduces convalescence and prevents hospitalizations.
Dr. Paradis has performed twelve operations in the last six months.
Isabelle Faucher underwent surgery last October. She remembers leaving the recovery room around 3 p.m., and going to pick up her children at the bus stop at 4 p.m.
“All the symptoms have gone down, my periods have gone down. I have no pain or physical discomfort,” she said.
However, large fibroids, for example larger than 10 centimeters, cannot necessarily be operated on with the device.
