Here is a new kind of wheelchair that allows its users to be on the same level as everyone else. Designed by Lithuanian company Chronus Robotics, Kim-e is described as a “ self-balancing personal mobility robot », and is reminiscent of Segway gyropods.

Kim-e is a motorized wheelchair that balances on two wheels, and designed to be as discreet as possible. It holds the user in place using straps, and allows them to switch between a sitting and standing position using a motorized system. The chair is equipped with crutches to remain stable when stationary, which makes it easy to sit at a table, for example. All systems are controlled entirely by upper body movements, leaving your hands free.

A speed of 20 km/h and all-terrain tires

Chronus Robotics has announced a maximum speed of 20 km/h and a range of 30 kilometers. Kim-e is powered by a lithium battery that requires four hours to fully recharge. The chair can be equipped with standard tires, capable of overcoming obstacles of five centimeters in height, or all-terrain tires, capable of overcoming obstacles of seven centimeters. It is also equipped with shock absorbers, and can climb a slope of 20 degrees. It folds up to be easily transported by car, weighs 38 kilos, and can transport people weighing between 40 and 90 kilos.

The firm indicates that the ergonomic posture of Kim-e has beneficial effects on the thoraxthorax (for the respiratory and cardiovascular systems) and the diaphragm (better digestiondigestion and easier bowel movements). On its site, Chronus Robotics allows you to register to test the Kim-e, but has not yet announced the availability date or the price.
