Revolutionary Human-Friendly LED Light Bulbs: The Key to Restful Sleep and Healthy Circadian Rhythms

Ideal light bulbs have been created that are even better than smart ones. They adjust the light in the room to the natural day-night cycle.

Korean and American scientists invented “human” light bulbs that do not cause overstimulation at night. Having these light bulbs at home will help you fall asleep quickly, get enough sleep and wake up easily (with a good sleep pattern).

Blue light (480 nm wavelength range) is known to disrupt circadian rhythms, throwing off your sleep-wake cycle. Engineers managed to make LED lamps that emit light with a wavelength of 480 nm during the day and up to 450 nm in the evening. This helped reduce the damaging effects of light on melatonin production.

Scientists tested their invention. In 22 adult men, over three days, melatonin production before bed increased by 12.2%, and during the day it decreased by 21.9% compared to those days when the subjects used regular lamps instead of new ones.

Do not confuse the range of wavelengths with the shade of light. If you turn on the blue light on your smart lamp during the day and the yellow light at night, you won’t achieve the same result. Some lights may be yellow but still have a negative effect on your circadian rhythm.

The authors hope that LED lamp manufacturers will take note of the study to create sleep-friendly lighting products, help people become more active during the day and improve the quality of consumers’ sleep.
