On Monday, the military wing of the Hamas movement revealed for the first time an air defense system that it said was home-made, on the third day of the war that broke out following the surprise attack launched by the movement two days ago from the Gaza Strip.
Hamas published a video filmed in an unknown location showing what it said was the “Metabar 1” air defense system.
The system consists of missiles launched from fixed platforms and guided remotely.
Masked Hamas members appeared preparing for the launch by placing rockets on platforms.
The video showed a number of other members of the movement behind laptops, and then the platforms appeared moving on their own before launching the missiles, an indication that the system was operating remotely.
But until now, Israel has not announced that it has shot down its planes in the midst of the war, which has entered its third day, and in which it relies heavily on the air force.
In the past, Hamas used small shoulder-fired anti-aircraft missiles.
