Revolutionary Electric Bike Propulsion Module with Automatic Gear Change

A propulsion module for an electric bike offering continuous automatic gear change, with two motors controlled by a single electronic card, is the innovation presented Thursday by Decathlon at the premises of the company E2 Drives, in Wavre. This exclusive module designed by the company from Wavre makes it possible to do without a derailleur, guaranteeing smooth operation since the gear changes are electronically controlled, as well as less wear. It will equip a new electric city bike marketed for 2,999 euros by Decathlon, from mid-September.

“This new central motor designed by E2 Drives paves the way for a whole new generation of electric bicycles since the automatic gear system gives the impression of riding on the flat, even when the road rises”, indicates Decathlon.

This double electric motor with continuous automatic speed change is called Owuru. An electronic card connected to eight sensors regulates the operation of the motors so that they provide the right speed and the right level of assistance to the user who does not have to deal with changing gears.

This innovative propulsion module is designed to last at least 20,000 km without changing parts. The parts come from European suppliers and the system, like the bike it will equip, are assembled at Decathlon in Lille. The declared objective is to offer a reliable and low-maintenance electric bicycle. The partnership between E2 Drives and Decathlon provides that the company from Wavre is responsible for technological development, with Decathlon providing production, sales and following-sales service.
