Revolutionary Cat Allergy Vaccine Test: First Human Trial Launches in England

Pimples, eczema, hives, itching, runny nose… these are some of the well-known symptoms of people allergic to cats. A significant inconvenience which will perhaps soon be a distant memory for them. French-Canadian company Angany announced it was launching its first vaccine test to treat human cat allergy caused by a reaction to the animal’s dander.

This first clinical study of the ANG-101 vaccine will be carried out in England the Royal Brompton Hospital in London on allergic adult patients. It has just obtained authorization from the MHRA (Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency).

Currently, there is no no cure for cat allergy. Patients can simply resort to medications that relieve their symptoms. The only effective treatment is desensitization, but it requires “years of administering cat allergens”specifies the laboratory before achieving the long-awaited immunity.

If the tests prove conclusive, a vaccine that is safe, effective and rapid might emerge and change the lives of many people. Cat allergies affect on average one in ten people.
