In India, researchers have successfully evaluated the effectiveness of a blood test that can predict tumors up to 18 months before they form.

In most cases, the earlier a cancer is detected, the better it is treated. It is with this in mind that Indian researchers developed in 2021 the “first pan-cancer blood test”featured in a video Ashish Tripathi, founder and CEO of Tzar Labs and president of Epigeneres Biotech, the Indian company behind the prototype. The HrC blood test, capable of detect the tumor before it formswas evaluated in a clinical trial, the results of which were published on March 7 in Stem Cells and relayed by New York Post.
The trial involved 1,000 participants, half of whom had cancer. The test was evaluated on twenty-five cancers including breast cancer, pancreatic cancer, lung cancer and colorectal cancer. “We haven’t had a single false negative, not even a false positive”he welcomed.
Identify cancer and predict its evolution
The tool detects cancer at stages 1 or 2, or even at an even earlier stage. Unlike most other cancer-reviewed blood tests, the tool looks for stem cells with a cancer biomarker before they form tumors. He manages to identify the cells up to 18 months before that they are tumours.

“Therein lies the breakthrough that we made: all the liquid biopsy companies that you know…they were looking for these fragments [de cellules tumorales] in peripheral blooda expliqué Ashish Tripathi. Or, “very little” tumor cells circulate in the early stages of cancer.
The tool goes further. Where tissue biopsies can determine if a cancer is metastatic, Epigeneres Biotech’s product predicts which organ(s) will be the target tumor cells, once more, before the first tumor has formed.
In the UK, hospitals have started using the test, says the New York Postand the United States also seems interested.
Detecting cancer with a simple blood test might to be revolutionary. Currently, the techniques used for screening can be difficult or even painful for the patient, like biopsies. With this invention, Ashish Tripathi sees very big: “what we want is a world where we will all do this test once a yearand we’ll get stage 1 cancer or earlier – every time – when it’s infinitely more curable.”
