King Salman Armed Forces Hospital in Tabuk recorded a great success in launching an experiment that is the first of its kind in the world, by establishing the first automated machine to dispense medicines electronically without the need to visit the hospital.
This achievement is added to the health services at the Ministry of Defense within a series of Saudi innovations in the field of technology, as the device consists of a workstation that deals with the prescription barcode, a screen that the beneficiary interacts with, an operating system for (robot), and a message platform that notifies the beneficiary of the readiness of the prescription when filling it. The device provides beneficiaries around the clock with a storage capacity of 102-700 prescriptions, and its ability to deal with prescriptions of various sizes, with very high protection from damage, vandalism or theft. The device provides statistics of the medicines dispensed to the beneficiary on a daily, monthly or annual basis.
Major Alyan Al-Atwi, Director of the Pharmacy Department at King Salman Hospital, stated that the device, which is the first of its kind in the world, works by requesting the service by scanning the barcode attached to the prescription, filling in the required data, and choosing the exchange device closest to the residence, before the pharmacist checks through the system. The electronic prescription is from the beneficiary’s prescription data, and if the prescription is accepted and there are no notes, a text message will be sent to the beneficiary with a special code and the geographical location of the device, in addition to the status of the request; allowing him to go to the device; To dispense the medical prescription within 48 hours, by entering the beneficiary’s civil record and the verification code sent to his phone, and then receiving the medicine.
He added: This service and other health services embody the interest of the wise leadership in the health of the citizen and touch all his needs. In order to provide him with means of comfort and facilitate his access to medicine in the easiest and best ways, including this creative method adopted by King Salman Armed Forces Hospital in the delivery of services, including medicines, indicating that this reflects the development and progress that our great country has reached and the medicines that are dispensed. in this device.
Al-Atwi confirmed that the device dispenses all medicines that are prescribed to any patient except for those medicines that need very low temperatures, and it is available around the clock, and the beneficiary can dispense his medicines at any time, as the device previously reduced the waiting time for the patient from four hours in front of the pharmacy.
