An artificial intelligence tool has identified people at high risk for pancreatic cancer, up to three years before diagnosis.
It’s a first. There was no early detection tool for this cancer. As the medical news site reminds us, Tempo Today, 44% of people diagnosed with early-stage pancreatic cancer survive five years following diagnosis. But only 12% of cases are diagnosed that early.
Nine million medical records
Researchers developed and trained a new tool that, using artificial intelligence, analyzed nine million medical records of patients living in Denmark and the United States. AI can identify pathways that represent an increased risk of pancreatic cancer in the next three years.
AI can help the medical community by spotting patients who develop certain conditions (diabetes, jaundice, gallstones, anemia, high cholesterol, etc.) in a certain order. These people are more likely to have pancreatic cancer.
