Supplementary healthcare in Brazil is going through a peculiar moment in which a transformation is necessary, with the introduction of new models that aim to optimize the entire logistics cycle, resulting in a significant reduction in costs for industry, distributors, hospitals, agreements and, oh, most importantly, greater quality and safety in patient care.
In a scenario marked by high inflation and rising costs of medicines and inputs, the logistics sector faces substantial challenges. According to the National Supplementary Health Agency (ANS), in the third quarter of 2022, the medical-hospital health plan segment recorded an operating loss of around R$5.5 billion.
The accident rate has reached alarming levels, reaching around 90%, which means that operators’ expenses have come dangerously close to 90% of their revenues. This environment is the result of the increased demand for surgeries, medical consultations and procedures held back during the pandemic, as well as the rising costs associated with medicines, supplies and complex medical technologies.
“Furthermore, the hasty approval of the exemplary list without considering actuarial costs worsened the challenges, while the misuse of health plans, fraud and abuse of service providers continue to burden the sector”, says Danilo Magri, CEO of Logmed
The search for greater efficiency in supplementary healthcare is a constant and vital challenge. In a specific sector such as OPME (Ortheses, Prostheses and Special Materials) it is essential that market leaders come together to debate and implement innovative and specific solutions that benefit all parties involved.
The ongoing transformation in supplementary healthcare in Brazil is a clear sign that to offer better services and healthcare to patients, it is necessary to reduce costs and improve efficiency at all links in the supplementary healthcare chain, addressing fundamental issues for the future of healthcare. OPME logistics in Brazil.
And that was what Logmed Soluções Logísticas Integradas sought to promote, on October 24, 2023 at the World Trade Center (WTC) in São Paulo, in its 1st OPME Logistics Summit, bringing together some of the biggest names in the sector in a full day of debates on “OPME Logistics and its challenges” and “Customer Excellence – The opportunities we don’t see”.
During the event, managers from large organizations invited to the discussion such as ABBOTT, STRATTNER, INPART, 3M, ZIMMER Biomet and MEDTRONIC came to the conclusion of the need to create an organization, a business front, with companies and sector representatives to seek measures effective in terms of the cost of supplementary healthcare in Brazil, in relation to greater agility in receiving and paying for elective surgeries.
The two forums held invited the invited panelists to have a productive discussion on the most varied topics that cover OPME logistics. In the morning, the panelists shared their experiences and views on the main challenges of OPME logistics, covering topics such as consigned stock, technology, urgent deliveries, auditing, among others.
In the followingnoon, at the debate table “Customer Excellence – The opportunities we don’t see”, names such as Leticia Baltazar – General Manager at ABBOTT, Lisandra Abreu – Director of Strategic Planning at MEDTRONIC, Joselito Cardoso – Commercial Director New Business at INPART and Rodolfo Amaral – Special Projects and Processes Manager Customer Service at Logmed Soluções Logísticas brought to light valuable insights and cases on how to increase excellence in customer service in such a specific sector and improve efficiency in all links of the supplementary health chain .
“The 1st OPME Logistics Summit took the first step in a movement of new events that aim to foster information, needs, peculiarities and development of OPME logistics. “It was very productive to bring together so many big names and obtain significant insights at this first sector summit organized by Logmed. We are already looking forward to the future and the opportunities we will have to shape OPME logistics in Brazil”, declares Magri.
