Revolution in Diakopto: Cause of war the sound curtains of the Suburban – 2024-07-08 18:11:15

Ready for a head-on collision are its operators and residents Intermittent, reacting to the installation of sound curtains for the Suburban. They consider that in addition to being unsightly, they are cutting their village in two!

Last Wednesday, the Active Citizens Initiative Committee of the Diakopto region organized an open gathering of citizens and organizations at the Spiritual Center.

And there they all showed up determined not to allow the installation of sound curtains of the commuter rail in their area. The gathering, of course, was interrupted somewhat abruptly and ingloriously, due to the fire that broke out at the same time on the Kalyvitis hill of Diakoptos, following several people left anxiously to go to their properties. So, it was decided to hold a new meeting for next Thursday.

The residents explain that the engraving chosen divided Diakopto in twonorth and south, with large walls, with adjacent streets quite narrow, especially in the west, where traffic is difficult and now with the installation of three-meter high sound curtains, the aesthetic image of the area is very ugly.

The first unofficial decision made was for residents to attempt to “block” the project through legal means. A lawyer will be assigned to proceed with the submission of an application for the annulment or removal of the sound curtain project, for serious reasons!

Also, they will request from ERGOSE all the permits that have been given and the Environmental Impact Study for the execution of the project and they will try to find weak points to challenge them in court.

The construction of sound barriers along the lines of the OSE in Diakopto is ongoing.

This is a project funded by the NSRF.

The municipal council of Aegialia has also taken a stand on the matter, siding with the residents, following a relevant proposal by the deputy mayor of Ergon, Vassilis Christopoulos.
