The classical guitar, represented three or four decades ago by well-known interpreters such as Julian, Bream, John Williams or the Romeros on all concert stages around the world, has since eked out a niche existence. Now the instrument is experiencing something of a minor renaissance: a new generation is helping the guitar gain new popularity and daring to play the extremely difficult instrument.
24-year-old Laura Lootens, winner of first prize at the Andrés Segovia Competition in Spain, one of the most prestigious guitar competitions in the world, has dedicated her debut album to the music of Isaac Albeniz – a Spanish composer whose music on the guitar is better known is than their original piano versions.
