To mark the end of this project signed WAW Architecten, costing more than 11 million euros and financed by the Dutch-speaking Community Commission (VGC), the Feder fund and the Flemish Community, free concerts will be organized.

“With this total renovation, the Vaartkapoen community center will regain its vocation as the beating heart of Molenbeek,” declared Ans Persoons (Vooruit), member of the VGC college in charge of Culture and Community Centers.

Created in the 1980s, the VK concert hall, which no longer met acoustic standards, was entirely isolated. It will be able to accommodate up to 480 people. A residency room for artists and a rehearsal room have been created, to bring out musical ideas and collaborations. The VK program will emphasize intercultural musical movements, parity and diversity, with at least 50% women on stage, and urban talents.

The renovated center will be energy efficient with the use of rainwater for its toilets, high-efficiency glass windows and reinforced insulation.

On the rue Saint-Joseph side, squats were demolished to create a public garden. By taking the green passage created, it is now possible to reach rue du Presbytère. A provision which will allow local residents to be involved in the VK project, particularly for the development of the garden and the laboratory located in the courtyard hangar. They can have a drink there, organize workshops or even school activities.
