The caretaker Minister of Public Health, Firas Al-Abyad, opened the former St. Therese Hospital (STMC) in Hadath, under the management of Dr. Fadi Hashem, following equipping it with one hundred and ninety beds and the latest medical equipment. Next year, a department for open-heart operations and surgical robots will be opened there.

Al-Abyad pointed out, “There has been frequent talk in recent years that the hospital sector is facing the risk of collapse, and that hospitals may close. However, what is happening is the opposite, as hospitals are reopening, similar to Saint Therese Hospital today, and soon Saint Louis Hospital will open, in addition to opening… Other hospitals with the help of university hospitals, in parallel with the restoration and expansion of departments in other hospitals.” He pointed out that “the numbers also show the return of doctors to Lebanon, which constitutes good news for the health situation in Lebanon.”

He explained that “the biggest challenge that is still on the table is the inability of many to be hospitalized,” noting in this context that “a major effort is currently being made between the government and the House of Representatives to secure a good budget for the Ministry of Public Health so that health coverage for citizens can be increased.”

He recalled his two recent decisions related to “increasing the tariffs for kidney and blood dialysis sessions, in addition to projects being worked on in government hospitals to expand departments and create new departments, similar to the establishment of chemotherapy and dialysis departments in Baabda Governmental Hospital,” stressing that “the citizen has the right for the state to stand up.” “At his side.”
