On Friday in Casablanca, the Ministry of Youth, Culture and Communication, the Wilaya of the Casablanca-Settat region and the Regional Council signed a framework agreement. The initiative is driven by the ambition to give new impetus to the region’s cultural and artistic scene, by implementing actions and programs aimed at promoting cultural activities, encouraging creativity and strengthening support for local artists.

In the form of a detailed roadmap, the agreement includes three major programs. The first focuses on the development of festivals and entertainment activities, aimed at revitalizing the region’s cultural infrastructures and highlighting the cultural and youth festivals organized each year.

The second program aims to equip and animate 18 local cultural spaces, offering training and professional integration opportunities to young people. These spaces will make it possible to integrate young people into the creative and cultural industries, by training them and supporting them, in particular through the organization of local activities.

As for the third program, it concerns the rehabilitation and enhancement of heritage places in the region. It aims to raise awareness of the importance of tangible and intangible heritage, while promoting operations to restore and enhance historic sites and monuments, including historic ramparts.

To achieve the objectives defined in this partnership, which is part of the Casablanca-Settat 2022-2027 regional development program, a total amount of 652 million dirhams has been allocated. The ministry will contribute 433.5 million dirhams, while the region will contribute 218.5 million dirhams.

On this occasion, Mohamed Mehdi Bensaid, Minister of Youth, Culture and Communication, underlined the importance of this agreement which illustrates the commitment of the ministry and the region in favor of the promotion and cultural development, particularly in the Casablanca metropolis. He also highlighted the investment in local human resources which is part of the objectives of this partnership for the revival of activities aimed at young people.

The President of the Council of the Casablanca-Settat region, for his part, welcomed this partnership, which marks, he said, the ambitious start of the 2022-2027 regional development program. Culture was chosen as the starting point because it occupies a central place in sustainable growth, impacting all citizens, especially young people.
