Should revision always be in monastic silence with oneself and in absolute seriousness? While this can be a method, many will prefer more active and engaging approaches. Lecturer Magalie Fournier-Plouffe from Collège André-Grasset in Quebec recounted during an AQPC (Association québécoise de pédagogie collegiale) webinar how she used various fun strategies to revise material in her course. obligatory history in a humanities program. Even more so, as she said, since it had the misfortune of being scheduled on a Friday evening. Enough to quickly lose students along the way.

However, she managed to keep her students motivated with different games to review the material learned during lessons. She explains how she used the game in her class:

  • Revision bingo
  • Crosswords
  • The game of “Who am I”, that is to say guessing the personality stuck on your forehead on a small piece of paper by asking questions to other students
  • The timeline game: the students had to use the event cards received to place them correctly on a timeline
  • Jeopardy: repeat the American quiz game with more or less difficult categories and questions depending on the number of points awarded
  • An escape game

Many of these methods cost practically nothing and were good ways to review the different learnings learned throughout the session. The students were all very positive about these fun uses, sparking surprise and the desire to persevere in the course. Initiatives that the young woman would like to see taken up by other colleagues in order to improve student motivation and knowledge retention.
