## A Nest of Sound: An Interview with Latvian Musician Reinis jaunais
**Reinis, congratulations on the release of “Nest,” your tenth studio album! It’s a beautiful and truly captivating work. Can you tell us a bit about the inspiration behind it?**
Thank you! It was a labor of love, almost three years in the making. With this album, I wanted to return to painting pictures with sound, drawing inspiration directly from my travels and experiences.
**You mentioned travel. Your music often feels intensely evocative of different places. How does your global journey influence your composition process?**
Everywhere I go, I am struck by the unique soundscape of each location. It might very well be the bustling marketplace in Marrakesch, the quiet serenity of a Scottish glen,or the vibrancy of a Rio Carnival. These sounds, these atmospheres, they become imprinted on my memory and find their way into my compositions.
“
Nest” dives deep into instrumental music. What lead you to explore this format for this particular album?
After “Zeme” my previous album was so well received, I felt drawn to continue exploring the powerful world of instrumental music. I believe it allows for a deeper connection with the listener, opening space for individual interpretation and emotional resonance.
**The album features a fascinating array of instruments, including some distinctly Latvian ones like the kokli and zwanga. What can you tell us about your instrument choices?**
I always strive to incorporate unique sounds into my music. For “Nest,” I wanted to showcase the beauty and diversity of Latvian instruments. The kokli and zwanga provide unique textures and melodies that add a special dimension to the album. Complementing it with the modular “Erica Synths Pico System III” synthesizer allowed for a fascinating mix of traditional and modern sounds.
**You collaborated with many talented Latvian musicians on “nest.” Can you talk about that experiance?**
It was a privilege to work with such a talented group of musicians. Erna Daugaviete on the cello, andris Buiķis on drums, Jānis Rubiks on double bass, Harijs Ločmelis on trumpet, and electronic music producer EIII each brought their unique voice and talent to the project. It was truly a collaborative effort.
**Aside from the digital release, “Nest” is also available on vinyl and features Dolby Atmos sound technology. What motivated these choices? **
For me, music is a multi-sensory experience. Vinyl offers a warmth and tactile experience that resonates deeply.Dolby Atmos takes the listening experience to another level, creating a truly immersive soundscape that surrounds the listener.
**You’re known for being a tireless global ambassador for Latvian music. How do you see yourself contributing to the international music scene in the coming years?**
It’s incredibly fulfilling to share my music and culture with audiences worldwide. I hope to continue traveling, performing, and collaborating with artists from diverse backgrounds. My goal is to create bridges between cultures through the universal language of music.
**Thank you so much for your time, Reinis. We wish you all the best with “nest” and your future musical endeavors.**
Thank you for having me!
