The scene is classic: you sit down to lunch, pick up your iPhone and put something on YouTube or some other streaming service. Before relaxing and starting your meal, however, you spend a good few seconds trying to rest your smartphone on a nearby object so you can eat with your hands free. After several attempts, you finally succeed, but the phone slips and falls as soon as you take the first mouthful. ????

If you’ve ever been through this situation, it’s very likely that you’ve thought regarding buying some kind of support for your iPhone, like those cases with built-in retractable supports or the famous PopGrips — who remembers them? So just pull the standput the iPhone on the table and enjoy this true tradition created by the royalty of the Middle Ages, which is to eat while consuming some type of entertainment.

I recently tested a case from ZEERA that proposes to solve exactly this problem, but without giving up another very popular feature of more recent iPhones: the MagSafe. Call MagSafe Kickstand Case with Ring holderit has a retractable support on the back that also serves as a magnet for accessories compatible with the Apple feature.

Without further ado, let’s get to the pros and cons of the accessory.

The design

Available in black and transparent versions, the case has models compatible with all iPhones equipped with MagSafe released to date. In my case, I chose the transparent case to test with my iPhone 14 (6.1 inches), as I wanted to keep the smartphone’s original color as much as possible.

The accessory is made up of parts made of different materials, starting with the bumper side, which is made of TPU and is slightly thicker than the iPhone itself. This detail is great for protecting the device’s screen, if you place it upside down on a table, for example.

The back cover, in turn, is made of polycarbonate and has a matte finish, which makes the case much more resistant once morest fingerprints — a real problem with the iPhone 14, which has a glossy glass back that is a true digital magnet.

At the back, we have the MagSafe ring of magnets, its hinge and the camera module cutout, which has a very nice protection that, like the other two pieces, is also made of aluminum, preventing the lenses from coming into contact with any surface and end up scratched or even broken during a fall. For the MagSafe ring, ZEERA used N52-type magnets which, according to the manufacturer, deliver “improved magnetism”.

What most caught my attention, however, were the side buttons, which in addition to making contact with the buttons on the iPhone itself, are also made of aluminum, which provides a much more satisfactory tactile feedback.

Before testing the ZEERA model, I was using another much simpler MagSafe case, which is very similar to the one Apple’s own transparent cover. Although it had a “shim” on the buttons, this case had a much less interesting and precise feeling, since the buttons were “glued” to the body of the accessory.

Although it doesn’t have the same premium look as an Apple leather case, for example, the alternative is super well finished. There aren’t any burrs in the plastic cutouts or anything like that and the bumper side has a rubberized appearance that helps to have more grip when holding the iPhone.

All this robustness, however, comes at a cost: that of making the iPhone a little thicker, which can be annoying at times.

The support

The retractable rear support does what it promises, although it’s not the most stable thing in the world. Naturally, the iPhone is much steadier when placed in landscape mode. If you use the iPhone with the cradle vertical, however, tapping it can cause the cradle to open further and further, which is a bit annoying.

But I recognize that this is only a problem if you tend to use apps like TikTok which, at least on iOS, still forces you to slide your finger across the screen to change videos. Leaving the iPhone in this orientation is a great option to follow a recipe while cooking, for example, and if you don’t interact with the device, it will stay still at the same angle the entire time.

In addition, the hinge of the stand is very sturdy. In the days I’ve tested this case, I’ve opened and closed it countless times, and it feels as sturdy as the day I first put the case on my phone.

In addition, ZEERA has added a hole on top of the aluminum ring so that the user can open the holder more easily. However, this hole is very narrow, which makes it very difficult to fit your fingertip to pull the support – especially if you have short nails.

verdict and availability

O MagSafe Kickstand Case with Ring holder it’s a versatile, well-built, and relatively affordable accessory. Normally the cover costs US$50, but at the time of writing this review, who access the ZEERA website you can get it for almost half the price: US$27.

If you’re tired of seeing your iPhone slip while trying to watch something hands-free, this is a great choice. You can position the smartphone at a variety of angles and even use the accessory as a kind of support when recording a vertical video or participating in a video call.

The accessory’s robust construction exudes confidence and bumper of TPU can certainly withstand a few drops. The most expensive part of your entire iPhone, the camera module, is well protected by an aluminum frame that also adds to the look of the case without being too flashy.

If you’ve just purchased an iPhone with MagSafe and are looking for an accessory to protect it, consider purchasing the MagSafe Kickstand Case with Ring holder. In my opinion, it is much more worthwhile than Apple’s transparent cover, for example, and that costs US$50 (or R$575). In that case, you’re not taking a more robust case, but a much more versatile case as well.
