After being slowed down during the pandemic, Airbnb appears to be profiting from so-called “revenge” tourism. In a report published this weekthe online accommodation rental platform reports a record 30% increase in bookings in 2022 compared to the previous year.
The Swiss are increasingly looking for destinations outside urban centers, observes the American company. More than a quarter of overnight stays booked from January to March 2023 were in rural areas, 20% more than last year. Abroad, the Swiss preferred northern Europe, with two Norwegian destinations in the top 3: Bergen and Oslo, along with Edinburgh in Scotland. Among Airbnb tenants in Switzerland, there are one third nationals and two thirds foreigners. The Swiss particularly visited Interlaken, Bern, Saanen, Arosa and St. Gallen at the start of the year.
