Revelations from the Autopsy: Uncovering the Cause Behind the Turkish-American Activist’s Death

The report explained that according to the testimony, the circumstances of death were: “She was shot in the head with a live bullet by Israeli army forces while she (American-Turkish activist Ayşinur Ezgi Ayci) was participating in a peaceful march in Jabal Sabih in the village of Beita, Nablus District, according to the testimony.

The report concluded as follows:

“The female body is 26 years old, with a good muscular and nutritional build during life. Upon external examination and autopsy, it was found that she had been hit by a bullet that penetrated the cranial cavity through the entrance wound located in the left occipital area of the head behind the left auricle, causing extensive bleeding and blood spillage under the scalp, covering the entire left half of the scalp, and a fracture in the left lateral aspect of the occipital bone behind the ear (a semi-circular bone loss measuring 1 cm * 1 cm) with signs of internal flushing, from which a fissure fracture branches out, extending upwards towards the left parietal bone, crossing the dome of the skull, reaching the middle of the lateral aspect of the right parietal bone, and extending inward and downwards, penetrating the bones of the base of the skull in the posterior chamber, from which multiple fractures and a fissure branch out towards the left mastoid bone and another fissure towards the right side of the posterior fossa, in addition to the presence of a fissure in the anterior chamber area in the bones of the right eye socket, and generalized bleeding under the dura, more severe on the right side, in addition to the cerebellum (area The cerebellum), generalized subarachnoid hemorrhage, severe edema in the brainstem and generalized hemorrhage, with a tear in the cerebellum and medulla oblongata resulting from the penetration of the projectile into the cerebellar lobes, causing a tear in it and a tear in the lower face of the right temporal lobe, as well as a tear in the brainstem in the middle of the right temporal lobe, causing a tunnel where the largest part of the distorted and compressed projectile of a lead color was found, which was approximately (5 mm * 5 mm * 4 mm), and two “fragments” were also found, which were two small pieces of lead-colored metal. All the metal fragments were seized and handed over to the Public Prosecution directly, noting that many bone fragments were found scattered within the cerebellar tissue, and the CT scan showed the presence of fragmented fractures in the left occipital bone, extending to the left mastoid bone and the parietal bone, with a blood clot under the glial mixed with bone and metal fragments, as it represents the entry site of the projectile “Into the cranial cavity, multiple metal fragments were found in the cerebellum, falx and right brain, with the largest fragment appearing in the right brain, as well as subarachnoid hemorrhage in the sulci, ventricles and cisterns, a small hemorrhage outside the right axis and cerebellar hemorrhage, signs of diffuse cerebral edema with recession of the sulci and loss of differentiation of white and gray matter, with pneumothorax in the head, as well as a blood collection in the left frontal sinus and sphenoid sinus. CT scan did not show any other injuries in the rest of the body. In light of the above, we attribute the cause of death to hemorrhage, edema and rupture of the brain substance resulting from injury by a bullet penetrating into the cranial cavity, fragmented and stable, as the path of the bullet inside the cranial cavity was almost straight from left to right.”

According to the official forensic medical report, the Palestinian authorities said about the cause of death: “We attribute the cause of death to bleeding, swelling, and rupture of the brain material resulting from being hit by a bullet that penetrated the skull cavity, fragmented, and lodged.”

Earlier, US and Palestinian officials confirmed that Turkish-American activist Aisha Nur Ezgi Ayci, 26, was killed during anti-settlement protests in the town of Beita in Nablus last Friday, while the Israeli army admitted to shooting at the demonstrators, indicating that it was looking into reports of the killing of a “foreign citizen.”
