Alex Reed this Sunday, May 7 of the France 5 program “C Médiatique” Yves Bigot, the former boss of France 2 and RTBF made revelations regarding the preparations for Eurovision in France and Belgium.

His statements might cause a stir. On France 5, Yves Bigot indicated that he had “order to lose” Eurovision when he was at the head of France 2 and RTBF.

“The problem is that if you win, you are the one who organizes the year following and it costs 20 or 25 million euros, he admitted. The chains do not have this money, except in small countries where it is the Ministry of Tourism that finances.”

“When I was at France 2, I had orders to lose and at RTBF, I had orders to lose, he hammered. RTBF they had won a few years before, they had been forced to dismiss 2 000 people because of what it cost.”

“In 1998, I had the girl to win…”

If he assures that things have “changed”, Yves Bigot tells an anecdote that dates back to the years when he was director of the variety, games and entertainment unit of France Televisions.

“In 1998, I had the girl to win and I was told: ‘You’re crazy, if you win you’ll be fired'”.

During the interview, Yves Bigot also delivers his analysis on France’s current difficulties at Eurovision.

“People do not feel represented by our representatives, he believes. France is not in the pop universe which is the universe of Eurovision.”
