England – West Ham United striker Michel Antonio leaked the words spoken by Liverpool coach Jurgen Klopp to Egyptian player Mohamed Salah before their argument during the match between the Reds and West Ham last Saturday.
Klopp did not start Salah in the West Ham match and decided to include him in the last 11 minutes, when the result was a 2-2 draw, and the two got into a verbal altercation on the touchline before the Egyptian star took to the field.
The microphones were unable to capture the dialogue that took place between Salah and Klopp during their argument, but it seemed as if some West Ham players who were sitting on the bench heard what happened between the German coach and the Egyptian star.
Antonio, who participated in the match and scored the second goal for West Ham, revealed that Klopp expressed his annoyance at the way Salah shook his hand before he went on to the field, and threatened to send him back to the bench.
Antonio said in statements highlighted by the “talksport” website: “What I will say is not internal information, no one told me, but this is what I heard and the boys (his West Ham teammates) on the field are repeating regarding the clash between Salah and Klopp.”
He added: “When the players enter Liverpool, Klopp hugs them and says good luck to them, but when Salah entered, he walked in a different direction and was wearing shin guards and things like that.”
He continued: “Klopp extended his hand to shake Salah’s hand and waited for him for some time, and when he finished what he (Salah) was doing, he slapped Klopp’s hand with a cold greeting.”
He concluded: “It is clear that Klopp did not like what Salah did and said to him: Do you want to sit on the bench once more?” Or do you want to continue and participate? No one told me what Salah said.”
