Revealed the 2nd Vietnamese to win the Mathematics Prize after Professor Ngo Bao Chau

On January 27, the Clay Mathematics Institute (CMI), USA, announced the awarding of Clay Research Fellowships to two scientists, Paul Minter and Pham Tuan Huy.

Pham Tuan Huy, born in 1996, is currently a 4th year PhD student at the Department of Mathematics, Stanford University. Tuan Huy has published 28 articles in international journals on Mathematics focusing on research on probability and theory of Computer Science.

Thus, Tuan Huy is the second Vietnamese to be awarded the prestigious award of this Clay Institute. The previous one, Professor Ngo Bao Chau, was awarded the prize in 2004. Theo CMI, vWith this award, Huy will be appointed as a Research Fellow at the Clay Mathematics Institute for 5 years, starting from July 1.

Pham Tuan Huy is a former student majoring in Mathematics, school year 2011-2014, High School for the Gifted, Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City. Huy has 12 consecutive years of winning the title of excellent student; valedictorian in the Math class, High School for the Gifted; 1st prize for the best student in Ho Chi Minh City in 9th grade math; Traditional Olympic gold medal April 30, 2011 – 2012 school year in Mathematics; 1st prize for national excellent student in Mathematics in grade 11; won a gold medal at the 2013 International Mathematical Olympiad in Colombia; Received certificates of merit from the Prime Minister, the Minister of Education and Training… Especially, Huy also won the title of Typical Young Citizen of Ho Chi Minh City in 2013.

Not only is he good at Math, Huy is also good at Literature, playing the piano and organ. Huy won the first prize of the Casio Festival on Piano in 2007.
