Last summer, Cristiano Ronaldo (37) used all means to force his exit from Manchester United and has subsequently been associated with almost every top European club. Now new details are coming to light!
Again and once more there was speculation regarding the Portuguese moving to Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga. And the Spanish newspaper “El Mundo” has now revealed how Ronaldo is said to have screwed up his transfer to the German record champions.
In the summer of 2022, Ronaldo’s former, long-term advisor Jorge Mendes (57) is said to have contacted Bayern Munich and Chelsea FC at the request of the superstar.
According to the report, both clubs were well aware of how valuable Ronaldo might be as a brand for the club. But at the latest when Ronaldo boycotted ManUnited’s first training session of the new season, a change was finally off the table.
Club officials at both clubs are said to have called Mendes to tell him they were no longer interested.
According to BILD information, however, there were no talks with Munich regarding a change and Bayern was never seriously interested in Ronaldo – even if the record champions have already calculated internally whether Ronaldo would make sense.
Bavaria’s CEO Oliver Kahn (53) in July to BILD: “We discussed the topic – otherwise we wouldn’t be doing our job well. Personally, I think Cristiano Ronaldo is one of the greatest footballers that has ever walked the planet. But we came to the conclusion that, for all our appreciation, he would not have fitted our philosophy in the current situation.”
Ronaldo would have been detrimental to the team’s chemistry with his huge salary (earned up to €29m a year at Manchester United) and status.
The bang interview with British journalist Piers Morgan (57) did the rest. In this conversation, the Portuguese had dealt violently once morest the club and coach Erik ten Hag (52). Mendes is said to have been strictly once morest Ronaldo’s interview with Morgan.
With explosive statements, the multiple world footballer finally initiated his end at the English record champions Manchester United. The contract between Ronaldo and the Red Devils was then terminated in November last year.
Ronaldo is said to have said to Mendes: “Bayern or Chelsea, or we’ll break up.”
This came at the end of November when Ronaldo parted ways with his longtime advisor. CR7 had worked closely with Mendes since the beginning of his professional career.
A real friendship developed over the years, privately both have a lot in common. Ronaldo was Mendes’ best man at his wedding, for which he is said to have even given him a Greek island. Conversely, Mendes is the godfather of Ronaldo’s son Cristiano Jr.
Now Ronaldo is being advised by girlfriend Georgina and Ricardo Refuge. Ronaldo met the then marketing manager at Nike in 2013 when he was playing for Real Madrid.
And Refuge also completed the Ronaldo transfer to Al-Nassr in Saudi Arabia, where Mendes had made his first contacts. However, Refuge collected the EUR 30 million commission for the transfer of the Portuguese to Saudi Arabia.
Ronaldo only made his competitive debut for the desert club on Sunday and won 1-0 with his new club once morest Al-Ettifaq.
