Merdeka.com – Scientists reveal that every blue-eyed person on Earth is descended from a single European who lived around 6,000 to 10,000 years ago.
Originally, all humans on this planet had brown eyes of various colors. Until finally there is a specific mutation that makes the color change in the human eye.
This mutation that can change eye color is a phenomenon when the HERC2 gene turns OCA2 off. OCA2 is a gene that determines how much brown pigment makes eyes brown.
The mutation doesn’t actually turn off the OCA2 gene completely, but rather limits its action to reduce melanin production in the iris which effectively “dilutes” brown eyes to blue. So that’s why the eyes changed from brown to blue.
Scientists dare to say that every blue-eyed human on this planet descends from the same lineage because every blue-eyed person alive today has the same mutation.
Reported from Indy100, Monday (24/4), scientists think only 8 to 10 percent of the population has blue eyes. Eye color is not fully developed in childhood, meaning brown pigment may appear later in adulthood. This is why blue-eyed children end up with brown eyes as adults.
