The Brussels bouwmeester launched a call for applications on Monday for an urban planner as part of the redevelopment project for the European district. The Federal State is in fact negotiating with a view to buying 21 office buildings from the European Commission in order to modernize them and reallocate 30% of their surface area to housing and equipment.

Du social housing in the European quarter in Brussels: this was an unrealistic combination a few years ago. However, it might become a reality within the next ten years. To be quite precise, the image turns out to be a bit reductive. It does, however, allow for the immense change in perspective. The surroundings of the Schuman roundregarding should indeed accommodate a large number of housing units, but also facilities such as schools or nurseries. And the famous European bubble will turn into a residential area (almost) like any other in the capital. That is to say alive and lively outside working hours.
