After the success of the first edition played in July 2022, the Greenweez Paris Major Premier Padel, one of the four majors of the Premier Padel circuit, returned to the Roland-Garros stadium at the beginning of September. Sportsmarketing.fr attended this Grand Slam of padel which brought together the 56 best men’s teams but also, and this was one of the big new features this year, the 48 best women’s teams.
The tournament welcomed new partners for this 2023 edition: Alpine and Veolia as Premium Partners, Fun Radio as Official Partner and Isdin and Forest Hill as Official Suppliers. Wilson, already present in 2022, is expanding its partnership this year in the textile category.
Meeting with Eno Polo, General Manager of the LeDap group, who will be from November 16 the new General Director of Premier Padel, the largest professional padel circuit in the world.
Bruno Cammalleri: In your opinion, why is padel becoming so popular in France?
One Polo : First of all, France is a country that loves and has a culture of racket sports, this is not new. And padel is undoubtedly the most user-friendly sport these days: this is mainly the reason why it is developing at this speed, everywhere. It’s super fun, easy to learn, and can be done competitively or purely for fun.
Bruno Cammalleri: What were the new features of this 2023 edition?
One Polo : The women’s table, and the night sessions. We had day sessions which started from 1 p.m., and two matches in night sessions from 6 p.m.
Bruno Cammalleri: What are the synergies between the different pilot players – the FFT, the International Federation of Padel and LeDap – in the organization of the Greenweez Paris Major?
One Polo : MejorSet, part of the LeDap group, was the official court supplier of the Paris Major tournament for the second consecutive year, as well as the official court of the International Padel Federation. The contribution of MejorSet, and therefore of LeDap, is to work on the installation of the best padel courts, to make this sport a sport of the highest quality, both in terms of visibility thanks to the Full Panoramic courts which are installed, and in terms of care for the players, because the facilities must meet very strict and measured requirements to ensure good play.
Bruno Cammalleri: How to meet the technical and logistical challenge of transforming Roland Garros into a padel court?
One Polo : From a fabrication and installation standpoint, this was no more complicated than any other project. MejorSet has been building courts for 20 years and we have managed all kinds of projects, from installing courts in the Maldives to tournaments like the Madrid Premier this year in a beautiful indoor stadium, in the Foro Italico for the Major d ‘Italy…
This year, at the Paris Major, the only difference with the other tournaments was perhaps the high number of courts: 9 padel courts were installed for the tournament, as well as a children’s court which will be installed in the store. Roland-Garros as an exhibition.
Bruno Cammalleri: LeDap wants to make Padel accessible to everyone. How can we achieve this?
One Polo : At LeDap, we understand that Padel will grow if we develop all verticals. Building and opening padel clubs where they can succeed thanks to their dynamics and culture is only part of the effort to make padel accessible. We think it’s easy to make people fall in love with Padel for the social and fun dimension through lessons with professionals, having fun at events within clubs that create a community; by organizing tournaments that give visibility, and also by spreading this enthusiasm for the sport; and through our inclusive initiative We Are Padel She Plays. All this makes Padel grow, and the more it grows, the easier it is to make it accessible to everyone.
Bruno Cammalleri: What are the expected economic and visibility benefits for LeDap following this tournament?
One Polo : We hope to have at least 8 million+ impressions through media coverage. The exhibition of the tournament will allow our brand MejorSet, manufacturer of courts, to have more than 12 million impressions on the tournament, since it is the official court installed, knowing that last year the exhibition was of around 8 million.
Regarding the economic part, we are investing heavily in the growth of the French market, especially in clubs, residences and resorts. The Greenweez Paris Major Premier Padel is an excellent platform to get in touch with our current clients, some chains like 4PADEL in which we have already installed more than 15 courts, and new potential clients who come to the event which is one of the biggest tournaments of padel in the world. We hope to showcase our courts not only where players play, but also at our booth where our team will explain the technology and benefits of our courts.
Bruno Cammalleri: What regarding other tournaments where LeDap is a main partner (Swedish Padel Open…)?
One Polo : Regarding LeDap’s investments in the Swedish Padel Open, in particular that of Malmö, our strategy is to create an ecosystem where we develop padel by making it accessible to everyone. For us, this means building padel clubs where people can learn to play, have fun and socialize around padel, but also provide the opportunity to see the best players in the world play and be inspired by watching them, as well as the excitement of the game.
