It was the publisher Devolver Digital who made the announcement with a teaser on the Youtube channel. The point and click adventure game franchise is back with Return to Monkey Island. Its original creator, Ron Gilbert, is back too.

The game will be published by Devolver Digital in collaboration with Lucasfilm Games. Development is handled by Terrible Toybox, which is the studio of Ron Gilbert, the original creator and designer of Monkey Island.
The series started in 1990 with The Secret of Monkey Island, which was followed by Monkey Island 2: LeChuck’s Revenge, The Curse of Monkey Island, Escape from Monkey Island and finally Tales of Monkey Island in partnership with Telltale Games. The first two parts of the series were entitled to special editions with completely redone graphics found on PC and modern consoles.
