Between the two litigants, the third one enjoys. In the M5S crisis, the man you (perhaps) don’t expect can come back into fashion. Sometimes they return, one would say in these cases, but never as in the last few hours has Luigi Di Maio gotten closer to the five-star players. He was also present yesterday, in fact, for the commemoration of the October 7 massacre at the Synagogue in Rome. The feud between Giuseppe Conte and Beppe Grillo opens a chasm in the party that the former Foreign Minister could exploit. His mandate as the EU’s special envoy to the Persian Gulf expires next February, a coincidence that increases rumors surrounding a sensational return. Di Maio, moreover, does not at all close the door to a second life in the buildings that matter, thus fueling the arguments that they would like him back on the front line. «Politics is something that creates addiction. I hope I’m detoxing, but like all relapses, anything is possible.”
This is what he admitted in the special episode of «A casa di Maria Latella» broadcast tonight on Rai3, where Di Maio threw fuel on the clash at the height of the Five Star Movement. «It’s a question of power and it’s incredible, because Grillo should be the shareholder and Conte the CEO, if we want to use a corporate term. But Grillo’s salary depends on Conte, and instead it should be vice versa.” The former five-star leader is keen to vindicate the illustrious results obtained when he was at the helm of the party. «We are at the lowest point of the Movement. I’m sorry for the positions because I had tried as much as possible to bring him to pro-Atlanticism, to a more balanced position on Israel, against leaving the Euro and in favor of the European Union, and we got 33% in 2018. Now it seems a backwards movement is underway and they are at 9%.” The stalemate between Conte and Grillo, therefore, becomes the perfect assist to get back through the window after being kicked out of the door.
