‘Return of the Empress’… Sorenstam to play US Women’s Open for the first time in 14 years

Annika Sorenstam (Sweden), called the ‘eternal golf empress’, will participate in the US Women’s Open for the first time in 14 years.

The American Golf Association (USGA), which hosts the US Women’s Open, announced on the 18th (Korean time) that Sorenstam has completed the application process for the US Women’s Open.

This year’s US Women’s Open will be held from June 3 to 4 at the Pine Needles Golf Club in Southern Pines, North Carolina, USA.

Sorenstam, who retired in 2008, has not competed in a major event, including the U.S. Women’s Open, in 13 years.

In February of last year, Sorenstam announced her return to the field by participating in the LPGA regular tour competition for the first time in 13 years and passing the cut.

This year’s US Women’s Open is held at Pine Needles Golf Club, where Sorenstam won the US Women’s Open for the second time in 1996.

Sorenstam has won the US Women’s Open three times (1995, 1996 and 2006).

“I’m excited to be competing once more at the US Women’s Open at the Fine Needles Golf Club, which is special to me,” said Sorenstam.

Sorenstam has won 72 of his career LPGA Tour titles during his career, and has won 10 major championships alone.
