The return of the Easter tours brings increased traffic on the National Highways, with the peak expected today, 7 May 2024, from morning to evening.

According to the data from Traffic policethis year’s Easter exit, was the largest since the time of the pandemic and for this reason, the traffic, as on Maundy Thursday, is expected to be at the highest levels.

We have a traffic jam just before 2:00 in the followingnoon in Athens – Lamia that starts from the Thebes toll road and extends for a long time, while there is also a lot of inconvenience for drivers returning to Athens from Corinth as well as from Kiato, Corinth, Agioi Theodorou and Nea Peramos in some places cars move at very low speeds.

A better picture is presented by the Athens-Lamia national road, where so far there are minor delays at the Afidna toll road.

Live traffic on the streets

According to data from the Traffic Authority, from 6 am on Easter Monday until 2 am today, 64,100 vehicles passed from Athens-Corinth and 46,814 from Athens-Lamia, while the measures of the Traffic Authority are in force.

Due to the increased traffic of excursionists, both the staff and the means of the Hellenic Police, mainly the Traffic Police Services, are on increased operational readiness, while increased measures have been taken throughout the country’s road network, with the aim of the safe movement of citizens and the prevention of traffic accidents.

Traffic jam in Malgara

The return of Easter excursions from the region to Thessaloniki is underway. Increased vehicle traffic has been recorded since 12 noon both at the N. Malgari toll road on PATHE and at the Analipsi toll road on Egnatia Odos, while traffic is running smoothly on the national road that connects Thessaloniki with Halkidiki.

Earlier, at the height of N. Malgari, traffic delays were observed due to a collision of three vehicles (in the direction of Thessaloniki) with only material damage. According to the Traffic Police, the vehicles involved are on the edge of the roadway and the incident is being recorded.

At the scene of the accident, traffic regulations have recently been applied due to work being carried out on the Axios bridge (in the entrance stream). Given the increased traffic due to the return of excursionists (expected to peak in the next few hours), this particular stretch of road is expected to be congested.
