[Sing Tao Daily Report]The Environmental Protection Department announced today that to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Hong Kong’s return to the motherland, it will launch the “City-wide Recycling 6 Times Rewards” campaign from tomorrow (5th) to July 5th. Citizens who recycle can earn 6 times the “Green Rewards” points to further encourage citizens to incorporate the habit of recycling into their daily lives.
“Green in the District” now has 11 “Recycling and Environmental Protection Stations”, 32 “Recycling Convenience Points” and more than 120 “Recycling Mobile Points” operating in a fixed-point street station mode. During the activity period, citizens can submit designated recyclables, including waste paper, metals, plastics, glass containers, four electrical appliances and one computer, small electrical appliances, light bulbs/light tubes and rechargeable batteries, to the collection points of “Green in the District”. Earn 6 times the points through the “Green Rewards” electronic point program, and accumulate enough points to redeem your favorite gifts more quickly.
In addition to the recycling activities in June, depending on the epidemic situation and social distancing measures, the EPD will hold a large-scale promotional and educational event “Green in the District and City-wide Recycling Month” at various “Recycling and Environmental Protection Stations” in November this year to celebrate with the public In addition to the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, we will share the joy of participating in clean recycling. Over 14,400 metric tons recycled in 2021
An EPD spokesman said that in order to assist and encourage citizens to actively practice waste reduction and recycling in their daily lives, and in line with the implementation of MSW charging in the future, the EPD is continuing to strengthen waste reduction and recycling support at the district level, including expanding and enhancing community recycling. The network is “green in the district” to facilitate citizens to practice clean recycling.
In 2021, “Recycling and Recycling Stations” and “Recycling Convenience Points” will have a total of regarding 3.8 million visitors, bringing in over 14,400 tonnes of recyclables. Among them, the best performing “Recycling and Recycling Stations”, “Green in Shatin” and “Recycling Convenience Points” and “Green in Po Lam”, the recycling volume in 2021 will exceed 800 metric tons and 600 metric tons respectively.
In addition, the “Recycling and Recycling Stations” and “Recycling Convenience Points” that will receive the most visitors in 2021 are Green in Eastern District and Green in Quarry Bay, both of which are located in the Eastern District of Hong Kong Island. As for the “Recycling Convenience Point” that issued the most “Green Rewards” points cards last year, Green in Tai Po Market issued more than 6,000 points cards. With the launch of the “Green Rewards” mobile app by the EPD in January this year, citizens can choose to register as members of the “Green Rewards” electronic points scheme through their smartphones, which will make it easier for the public to participate in clean recycling.
The spokesman pointed out that the EPD has also used technology to enhance recycling services and efficiency in the community. It will start testing smart recycling equipment (including smart scales, smart scales, Automatic gift redemption machines and smart recycling bins) in the local application and benefits, and from May this year, smart recycling facilities have been gradually installed in “recycling and recycling stations” and “recycling convenience points” across the line. Meanwhile, the EPA is looking for other suitable sites to further increase the number of smart recycling systems to 80 to 100 sites.
