2023-12-30 18:00:00

We are coming to the end of another year and, at this moment, it is always good to look back and remember everything that happened. For those who follow Apple news, 2023 It was not only a year of news, but it also marked the “see you later” of some devices.

Therefore, as we prepare for 2024, it is worth remembering the moments when Apple surprised (or tried to surprise) the public, while at the same time saying goodbye to innovations launched some time ago.

Let’s take a look, in this post, at the devices that Apple said “goodbye” to in 2023, while we celebrate their legacies and look forward to what will come in the coming years, of course. Let’s go? ????

iPhones 12, 13 mini, 14 Pro e 14 Pro Max

The arrival of the long-awaited iPhones 15/15 Plus and 15 Pro/15 Pro Max not only brought new features, but also signaled the end of not just one era, but three. This year, Apple killed last year’s iPhones 14 Pro/14 Pro Max and, for the last time, the mini line.

The iPhone 12 has been in the lineup since its original launch in 2020, and it was the one who introduced 5G technology to Apple smartphones. The iPhone 13 mini, from 2021, marked the company’s latest attempt to introduce small screens to the market.

The iPhones 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max were responsible for adopting the Always On Screen (Always-On Display) and the Dinâmica Island (Dynamic Island), two features that were highly praised on the market and that stood out in general.

Apple Watches Series 8 e Ultra

The discontinuation of the 1st generation Apple Watches Series 8 and Ultra, in a way, was already expected. With the introduction of the Series 9 and Ultra 2, the Cupertino giant did not present any major innovations, but brought good improvements to both lines.

The Series 8, it is worth remembering, was the one that incorporated the body temperature sensor, aiming to detect and monitor menstrual cycles, while the Ultra was presented as a more resistant product to mainly serve adventure fans.

Accessories

This year, too, Apple spared no changes to the aesthetics of its accessories and the connectivity of its products. You AirPods Pro (2nd generation) with a Lightning charging case, for example, gave way to a new model with USB-C.

Likewise, last September, Maçã took the decision to discontinue the Bateria MagSafe for iPhone, launched in 2021, and the MagSafe Duo Chargerwhich arrived a year earlier — both, it is worth noting, still had the Lightning port.

Finally, the introduction of the material FineWoven marked the end of the use of leather in accessories, such as cases for iPhones, bracelets for Apple Watches, wallets with MagSafe for iPhones, as well as keychains and loops for AirTags.

MacBook Pro com Touch Bar

In the world of laptops, the “It will chill” event (“Scary fast”) not only brought new features, but also marked the end of an era for the 13-inch MacBook Pro. The model, which shined for years, saw its popularity decline over time.

The removal of the Touch Bar, a controversial point among users, stands out as part of the evolution of the design of Apple laptops; the feature was introduced to the line in 2016. In 2022, the model was even updated with the M2 chip, but it didn’t last long.

Bonus: services discontinued by Apple

In 2023, Apple also made significant moves in its services strategy, discontinuing some well-known platforms.

O iTunes Movie Trailersfor example, was absorbed by the Apple TV app, ending the service that was launched in 2011. Assinatura Voice do Apple Musicintroduced in 2021 and which limited interaction with the service only via Siri, was silently removed,

Finally, the ability to purchase films and series through the iTunes Store on iOS devices has been disabled. Now users are directed to the app Apple TV. The changes point to a gradual transition, suggesting the imminent end of the nostalgic and enduring iTunes brand.
