The organizers of the Retrofestival are continuing their overhaul of the event dedicated to vintage vehicles in Caen (Calvados).
After having instituted free admission in 2022, they are now abandoning the early summer period for that of the start of the school year, and invite you to meet on September 2 and 3, 2023, at the Caen racecourse.
“A festive event open to all” in Caen
A winning bet. Last year, Sylvain Cotigny, the person in charge of organizing the Retro festival, had opted for the free event. “Before, you had to pay €10, and it was too expensive. I wanted it to be accessible to as many people as possible. »
In agreement with the City of Caen, the organizers have therefore changed gear to make it “a festive event open to all”. With a priority target:
Teenagers, for whom the entry price was a hindrance. We also need to think regarding the future and interest young people in the heritage of vintage cars, which risks disappearing without them.

35,000 visitors in two days in 2022
Result of the races: “35,000 visitors in two days”, despite competition from the Beauregard Festival, which was making a comeback following two years of absence. Encouraging, very encouraging.
In 2023, a new development, since the Retrofestival, traditionally organized at the beginning of summer, will take place at the start of the school year.
It’s basically related to the availability of the racetrack. But, despite the success of the 2022 edition, I did not want to face Beauregard once more, which attracts the young generation in droves, a population that we precisely want to seduce.

Porsche 911, MG, 2CV, Austin-Healey…
The weekend of September 2 and 3, “the last of the long holidays”, quickly became obvious to attract more widely “families and young couples”. Without however neglecting “lovers of beautiful mechanics”, which constitute the “bone marrow” of the event.

The latter will once more have plenty to satisfy their passion, with “more than 600 vehicles presented“.
Featured: “The Porsche 911, celebrating its 60th anniversary, with 60 to 70 cars on display. The MG, Citroën 2CV and Austin-Healey brands – which respectively celebrate their 100, 75 and 70 years of existence – will also be honoured.
Two-wheeler fans will also be in for a treat, “with 80 motorcycles and sidecars, mostly pre-war models through the 1950s” to admire.
The legend of the Circuit de la Prairie
In addition, regulars will find everything that makes up the DNA of the Retrofestival: state and elegance competitions, the auction, parades in the city center and other baptisms of all kinds.
Without forgetting the Circuit de la Prairie, a tribute to a time when the green lung of Caen was the setting for a Formula 1 Grand Prix, which had seen the legendary Stirling Moss triumph in 1958. will drive all day, in groups of 10 to 12 vehicles. ” Do not miss !
