The stage and the basin of the “Retorno dos Piratas” diving show collapsed on Monday around 5 p.m., injuring several people, including a man shot in the neck, in the Portuguese district, according to our colleagues from the Badische Zeintung. Debris fell on the arrival area of the Atlantica Super Splash roller coaster.
Questioned by BZ, the spokesperson for the leisure park confirmed several injuries. For their part, the police reported seven people affected: five artists and two visitors. Three of them were hospitalized, a police spokeswoman said Monday evening. A water leak in the show basin might be the cause of the incident.
The cleaning work is in progress and the attraction might resume its activities on Tuesday, said the spokesperson for Europa-Park.
Last June, a big fire broke out in a technical room of an attraction at the Europapark in Rust. A large deployment of firefighters was needed to bring the blaze under control. Seven men were slightly injured.
