The National Authority for Retirees, part of the Moroccan Labor Union, renewed its demand that the government increase the value of pensions to confront the high cost of living crisis that the Kingdom is witnessing.

The same authority stressed the need to enable retirees to exercise their right to increase their pensions, due to “the unprecedented inflation for which the government bears responsibility, due to its inability to control prices,” while it demanded “stopping the unjust tax deduction from pensions.”

In a related context, the National Retirees Authority denounced “the government’s exclusion from the social dialogue agenda of the real problems related to retirees in the various pension fund systems, and its limitation of what it calls “retirement reform” to targeting the gains of the active class.”

The same union body warned the government against adopting a “policy of marginalizing and starving retirees and ignoring their legitimate demands,” noting that this “will push this group, along with their families, to engage in struggle programs that will be outlined later.”

In light of this situation, the same body called on the government to “assume its responsibility to provide social services to retirees and ensure their quality, free access, and affordability,” while calling on all retiree and pensioner organizations to “form a national bloc for struggle and action that allows for guaranteeing rights, preserving historical gains, and extracting just and legitimate demands.”

It is worth noting that the National Authority for Retirees held the first national forum for retirees yesterday, Sunday, under the slogan “The struggle of retirees is a continuation of the struggle of workers for their legitimate demands,” during which it shed light on the nature of the tasks assigned to this authority and the organizational roles of its work after its establishment.

According to a statement by Boucheta Dermie, President of the National Authority for Retirees, the holding of this national forum comes in a turbulent national context, the most prominent of which is the growth of sectoral and class protests due to the policy of eliminating the purchasing power of workers and citizens in general, stressing that this forum constitutes an opportunity to study organizational, advocacy and institutional problems, and to determine the methodology of work and prepare the elements of the Authority’s demands file.
