A retiree, from Belsele in the commune of Saint-Nicolas, was flashed at 111 km/h instead of the 50 km/h authorized in urban areas, according to information from Laatste Nieuws.

“I normally drive very cautiously,” he defended himself before the judge in Saint-Nicolas, before coming up with a totally far-fetched explanation for his misconduct: “I had a very bad stomach ache at that moment. I had to go to the bathroom urgently, so I sped up.”

The car the pensioner was driving belonged to his son. The police therefore thought that he was trying to cover up his son’s speeding, but he denied any lie and therefore received a 45-day license withdrawal, as well as a fine of €560.
