Hon Hai (2317) founder Terry Gou posted on Facebook tonight (2) that he proposed “Promise children a responsible future” yesterday and received feedback from many young students. Reading the enthusiastic thoughts of the young people, Tai Ming mightn’t help feeling a lot of emotion.

He said that Taiwan is small, densely populated, and lacks natural resources. It can create today’s world-renowned economic miracle. In addition to relying on hardworking people and industrialists who create the future, it also depends on a high-quality and equal education system. Education is the foundation of the Republic of China and the cornerstone of Taiwan’s sustainable economic development and prosperity.

The education reform in 1994 established high schools and universities widely, making high school education popular. Universities are no longer a narrow door. Every child who wants to go to higher education can enter the palace of higher education to acquire knowledge. However, the educational reform 30 years ago solved the “quantity” problem of higher education, but the “quality” problem did not improve.

Degree inflation has caused the problems of higher education to emerge one by one. Guo Taiming believes that this is a well-known hidden worry in Taiwanese society for the past two decades, and it has even become a crisis in the past few years.

Guo Taiming said that he has read the statistics of experts and scholars. In 1990, the unemployment rate of university education was 2.03%, but by the end of 2022, the unemployment rate of university education will be as high as 5.16%, and the unemployment rate of high school vocational education will be 3.23%. .

In addition, according to statistics from the General Office of Accounting and Accounting, in 2001, only 1.8% of the 1.17 million college-level laborers had a college degree or above, but by 2022, this ratio would rise to 11.3%. Inflation of academic qualifications has created a vicious cycle of “higher education, lower salary, lower achievement”.

According to the Household Income and Expenditure Survey, the median annual disposable income of those with a university degree dropped from 630,000 in 1995 to 530,000 in 2021; 840,000 yuan, which will only rise slightly to 880,000 yuan by 2021── After deducting the price index, the real disposable income of highly educated people will shrink sharply.

In the face of this crisis, the government does not think regarding how to solve these fundamental problems. What’s more, it introduces policies to buy tickets, such as “reducing tuition and miscellaneous fees for private college students by NT$35,000 per year”, and hastily stipulated that “male college students study for 3 years, 1 I will serve as a soldier next year.” These policies are fundamentally putting the cart before the horse and putting the cart before the horse. It is shocking to hear that.

He pointed out that it is important to reduce the burden on students and parents, but students are more concerned regarding whether they can acquire enough theoretical knowledge and develop professional skills in the future during the four years of their precious youth. According to the research report of the Higher Education Labor Union, Taiwan’s public sector’s annual investment in higher education accounts for only 0.39% of the country’s total GDP, regarding 72.45 billion yuan, accounting for the lowest proportion of domestic GDP. If it is compared with the average level of 1% of OECD member countries, there is obviously a huge gap.

He believes that the “3+1” proposed by the government has completely subverted the essence of university education, without any supporting measures. Taiming hereby appeals that the wrong policy is in sight, and the government must rein in the precipice and re-examine the policy of higher education.
