Faced with the increase in cases of COVID-19 and respiratory viruses, wearing a mask will once once more become mandatory at the University of Montreal Hospital Center (CHUM) starting Monday.
This is indicated by an internal memo sent to employees of the Montreal hospital, information first reported by Radio-Canada and confirmed by The Press. According to this note, doctors and staff who go into patient rooms will once more have to wear masks in the hospital. Patients themselves, their loved ones and visitors will also have to comply with this new measure.
“We encourage you to implement good practices in terms of hand hygiene,” the CHUM also tells its employees. This preventive approach aims to protect the hospital population by avoiding contamination, says the CHUM.
The measure will be in effect from Monday October 2.
Already in place elsewhere in Quebec
The CHUM is not the first hospital center to implement this measure in the face of the resurgence of respiratory viruses. On September 21, Radio-Canada Estrie reported that masks were now mandatory in all CIUSSS de l’Estrie – CHUS facilities due to the increase in COVID-19 cases.
The University Hospital of Quebec followed on September 27 by making this protective measure mandatory in a hospital environment for patients and anyone in contact with them, whether staff or visitors, indicated ICI Québec.
