After a month of interruption, negotiations between the studios and the striking screenwriters will resume.
Negotiations between striking screenwriters, supported by the Writers Guild of America (WGA) and the studios, grouped under the aegis of the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP), will resume a month following having been interrupted.
Negotiations will take place next week on a date that has not yet been set, an AMPTP spokesperson revealed to the specialized site. Indiewire: “Wednesday September 13, the WGA contacted the AMPTP to relaunch negotiations.”
“We have accepted and are working to organize a meeting next week,” the spokesperson added. “AMPTP is eager to secure a fair agreement and work with the WGA to end the strike.”
Precariousness of the job
On strike since May 2, the screenwriters denounce their precariousness and demand an increase in their remuneration, minimum guarantees to benefit from stable employment and a greater share of the profits generated by the boom in streaming.
The screenwriters also call for the establishment of safeguards once morest the progress of artificial intelligence which, ultimately, might put the profession in danger. The actors have joined the writers since July 14.
The Hollywood calendar was completely turned upside down by this social movement. The Emmy Awards, the most prestigious awards in American television, were recently postponed from September to January for the same reason.
