The most popular city car in Europe, the Peugeot 208 intends to ride on this good momentum and, to do this, offers itself a clearly visible restyling in 2023. And even novelty under the hood.

06/07/2023 Pierre Lefebvre

Last year, the Peugeot 208 won the title of best-selling car in Europe under the nose and beard of the Dacia Sandero and VW Golf. A power grab that the little Lioness owes in large part to her devastating look among city dwellers. But no question for her to fall asleep on her laurels. Thus, following its brother in 2008, the 208 in turn benefits from a restyling in 2023 and in particular from a completely revised face. Shields, optics and, above all, new light signature with three claws positioned lower are there, as is, of course, the modernized Peugeot logo. Note also the enlargement of the grille, which is adorned with body color on the high-end GT and Allure finishes..

The rear is also changing and this can be seen much more than for 2008. Thus, the LED lights go from vertical to horizontal position and, still displayed in full, the brand name is bigger. The revelation of the interior of the 2008, with which the 208 makes common cause, had put an end to the suspense. Like the urban SUV, the city car does the bare minimum on board. The trigger as a gear lever had been adopted last year and the main change for this restyling, it is the adoption of the latest Peugeot multimedia interface for the central 10-inch screen with the maintenance of the shortcut buttons placed below.

Two new hybrid engines for the restyled Peugeot 208

If, in terms of engines, we were rather expecting something new on the electric version – with a battery with increased capacity (54 useful kWh) and a new 156 hp engine manufactured in Trémery (Moselle) – the Lion will equip its 208 with this which it lacked to replace the Toyota Yaris and Renault Clio E-Tech, namely a non-rechargeable hybrid engine. Two, even, since in addition to receiving the 136 hp inaugurated by the 3008, there is a deflated version at 100 hp, both receiving the same modernized 1.2 PureTech 3-cylinder turbo petrol engine (chain timing, etc.) and associated with the new e-DCS6 three-clutch gearbox. If the first deliveries of this new 208 are expected next fall, the prices will be revealed in September.
