The Miata evolves in small steps. Here’s everything that changes.

The fourth version of the Mazda MX-5, the one with the code ND, seems timeless. In fact, it hasn’t aged a bit since its launch in June 2015.

However, in its native lands, it is already showing discreet cosmetic developments. To start with new LED headlights now including the daytime running lights function which until now was located lower on the shield.

At the rear, the texture of the lights is modified by adopting 3D lighting. On the other hand, this is a detail, the shape of the front shield remains unchanged with the exception of the appearance of a radar sensor installed at the edge of the grille. Essential equipment for the new driving aids such as active cruise control and intelligent braking assistance.

And as is customary during a restyling, the Hiroshima manufacturer took the opportunity to offer new rims. All the modifications concern both the silhouette with a soft canvas top and the one topped by a retractable hard roof called RF.

A little more power for the entry level

On board, the multimedia system has an 8.8-inch screen with an update and more functionality in terms of connectivity.

Under the hood, the entry-level 1.5 engine gains a tiny handful of horsepower, going from 132 to 136 hp. On the other hand, above the 2.0 block remains at 184 hp. A new asymmetric limited-slip differential is also included on versions equipped with the 6-speed manual gearbox. Finally, the calibration of the electric power steering is also modified. These restyled versions will be available in Japan and Australia in mid-January.
