The activities of the “Restoring Neutrality” conference, sponsored by the Maronite Patriarch, Bechara Al-Rai, kicked off in the Lebanese capital, Beirut, on Saturday.

The conference, organized by the International Committee for Lebanon and the World Christian Union, includes a workshop, and it discusses the episodes of the concept of neutrality, its historical context and its emergence in Europe, its benefits for Lebanon, and arms outside the framework of the state.

Dr. Ali Al Nuaimi, Chairman of the Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee of the UAE National Council, called for initiatives to promote coexistence in the region.

During his speech at the “Lebanon Neutrality” conference, Al-Nuaimi warned of the need to see Lebanon as a platform for the region to return to what it was as an oasis of peace for the region.

He added that his country is building bridges of love and respect regardless of sects and religions, stressing that neutrality is a necessity not only for Lebanon but for the entire region.

He also called on the Chairman of the Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee of the UAE National Council to adopt a vision and programs that converge with the objectives of the conference, and we need initiatives that promote coexistence in the region.

The conference included other speeches besides those of the Maronite Patriarch Al-Rahi, a speech by the Committee for the Implementation of International Resolutions on Lebanon and a speech by the World Christian Union.
