People and animals in Venezuela are donating hair and fur to help recover the lake following it was engulfed in crudo. At the national level, environmental activists have started a campaign for this project called Project Sirene, and there is a huge response from the people.

Maracaibo is also said to have been nicknamed the City of Light because it was the first city in Venezuela to be lit up with electricity. It is also home to Lake Maracaibo, the oldest and largest historic lake in the world. The existence of this lake was once the basis of Venezuela’s own social, cultural and economic life. This lake controlled Venezuela’s freshwater system, agriculture, electricity, and employment.
