Restaurant Barentsz in Amsterdam West has stolen our hearts! Sometimes you suddenly come across a restaurant that you did not know before. And when you take a seat on the terrace, which catches the last rays of the sun, and are received super friendly, you really hope that the food will also be tasty. And wow: our expectations were even exceeded. What wonderfully refined dishes and innovative flavors! And for a very good price. Please put restaurant Barentsz on number 1 for your next special date, dinner with your parents or special dinner with friends.
Restaurant Barentsz in Amsterdam West: delicious fine dining dishes in an accessible, relaxed setting
Barentsz is located in Amsterdam West, relatively close to Amsterdam Central. On a nice quiet square, with a small terrace where you can catch the last rays of the day. We are immediately warmly welcomed and take a look at the menu. It contains small to medium-sized dishes, perfect for sharing. Can’t choose from all these goodies, just like us? Then go for the chef’s choice: you get 4 courses, with 2 to 3 dishes for each course, so you can taste almost the entire menu. Really tasty, and very well priced!

We are already surprised at the first dishes that come to the table. Very refined flavors and textures, really special dishes! Almost fine dining, but in a nice relaxed, accessible setting. What do we definitely recommend? The roasted leek was really one of our favorites. Butter-softly cooked leeks, with an almond mousse and crispy fried capers, really very special. The steak tartare is nice and coarse and slightly different than you would expect because of the mint. And be sure to ask for the fish and meat of the season: we got a cod that really melted on our tongue, with fregola and cockles, very tasty.

And even the desserts were really special! We ate a small brownie that got summery because of the watermelon granita. And our favorite which is the fried fig with homemade vanilla ice cream and raspberry, wow!

We really had a great meal at Barentsz, a hidden gem in Amsterdam West as far as we are concerned. A very strong recommendation! Anyway, we’ll be back soon.
