Thoughtworks, a global technology consultancy that integrates strategy, design and engineering to drive digital innovation, will be present at the 2023 edition of the Web Summit, which will take place in Rio de Janeiro (RJ), with the presence of Dr. Rebecca Parsons, the company’s CTO who has been instrumental in advancing responsible technology, will speak on May 2nd and 3rd.
When it comes to technology’s impact on the planet, it creates both challenges and opportunities. But a number of positive trends are emerging. Consumers are increasingly taking the climate emergency into account when choosing a brand and, most importantly, organizations are adopting best practices and standards and taking solid steps towards improving their sustainability performance. Dr. Parsons will address the topic Responsible and sustainable technology: a growing and collective obligation, on a panel with Thiago Ávila, from Movimento Bem Viver and, together, they will present a Thoughtworks case on the positive impacts of work carried out with this partnership.
On Day 3, Rebecca talks about the growing understanding of technology that is addictive, about synthetic media and biases in Artificial Intelligence, as well as how people are understanding technology in a way that is doing more harm than good. The executive will bring recent studies and trends to address some ways in which it is possible to promote responsible technology initiatives. The theme of the panel is Responsible technology in an age of hostile technology.
The state of responsible technology
Thoughtworks recently released “The State of Responsible Technology,” a report developed in partnership with MIT Technology Review Insights, which reveals that 55% of business leaders in Brazil see improved sustainability as one of the key benefits of responsible technology. The global average is 43%.
