[ワシントン 20日 ロイター] – The US administration and Congressional Republicans exchanged accusations on the 20th over the federal debt ceiling. No talks took place that day, and a White House official said that President Biden instructed his administration team to schedule a phone call with Speaker of the House McCarthy, a Republican, for Monday morning ET.

Biden was briefed last night and this morning on the progress of the debt ceiling talks during his visit to Japan.

White House spokesman Jean-Pierre said in a statement that the Republican Party was pushing too far to the right. Meanwhile, McCarthy also told reporters that Democrats are taking an extreme left-leaning stance.

“Unfortunately, the White House has gone backwards,” McCarthy said, adding that the “socialist side” of the Democratic Party appeared to be in control. He also said he doesn’t think talks will progress until Biden returns home.
