Nine seasons from 2012 to 2021. Over 11,000 points, over 4,000 assists, 1,500 shots from the parking lot and approximately 900,000 forced passes. Then this leadership role, on and off the court, and the icing on the cake with the NBA title in 2019. Kyle Lowry in the Raptors jersey is a candy, and this night the Scotiabank Arena paid tribute to that considered by many to be the most important player in franchise history.
The Raptors had already received Miami this season, on February 2, but Kyle Lowry was absent then and the party had therefore been postponed. No fuss tonight and on the sidelines of the clash of the East between two highly anticipated teams in the Playoffs, the Canadian franchise obviously paid tribute to the one who had his best days during nine seasons, between sacrifices and statistics, thanks to his big ball and his immense talent. Placed on the Heat bench with the kids, closed like an oyster because the emotions had to put a hell of a ball in his stomach and that Kyle first came to play a basketball game, we’ll never change that. Nine years is a long time, even longer if you spend it giving your body to science, so that night around 1:15 a.m. your eyes were wet. Kyle Lowry in Toronto is a real piece of Dino history, almost a decade of nice teasing regarding the circumference of his buttocks and his alleged weakness in the Playoffs, at the beginning, but in 2019 more people are available when he has had to be justified, in front of a Calorie carrying his team to the ring following a remarkable postseason in all respects. At the time Kyle was already passing – a little – the torch to Pascal Siakam and Fred VanVleet, who stole his record for award-winning shots scored in a season this evening following a crazy start to the match, at the time Kyle had nevertheless not badly appreciated the reinforcement of Kawhi Leonard, finally it would seem, but in 2019, especially, Kyle put the exclamation point on a beautiful love story between a soldier and his city. So tonight and ten days before the start of the Playoffs, his old house paid tribute to him, a tribute that was both benevolent and melancholy, both nostalgic and filled with love. Check it out, and if you feel something running down your cheek, don’t panic, you’re human.
