Prime Minister Alexander De Croo has come to terms with Deputy Prime Ministers Frank Vandenbroucke and Vincent Van Quickenborne, individually and then collectively, he said on Friday following reports surfaced of a heated altercation between the two men during a meeting in a select ministerial committee. Such an incident is not acceptable, he said.

The Prime Minister said he “deeply” regretted the incident on Wednesday evening. During talks with Deputy Prime Ministers Vooruit and Open VLD, the Head of Government insisted on the importance of maintaining “respectful and professional exchanges, including when the discussion concerns subjects where differences of opinion exist and are legitimate”.

“The incident that took place on Wednesday evening is not acceptable and is not in line with what is expected of respectful and professional behavior towards others,” said Mr. De Croo.

“Those involved have indicated that they want to get over this incident and are committed to keeping a cool head,” he said.
